THE 9TH LAYER

XP Networking was an innovative IT solutions firm in Portsmouth who was ready for a change. We worked closely with their leadership team to create a new brand that brought their offering to the forefront of their identity. Layer 9 emerged as a new brand with a new website and digital presence.

To tell business owners everywhere that the new Layer 9 was ready to be their solutions provider, we invited audiences to “Rewind with Layer 9” – a unique cloud feature that allows their customers to completely revert their work environment to the previous hour before, a full proof anti-malware tool that can erase any human error.

The brand voice and tone we developed lent itself to an introductory campaign that took some risks. Something strong and with an attitude. We began looking through the product offerings for something truly unique. We identified a feature where an entire org’s network could be set back on the hour if any major malfunctions or attacks had occurred. We called it rewind. And we invited potential customers to see how it works. To Rewind with Layer 9.

Not Your Ordinary IT

A full re-brand has to touch each and every representation of identity. It also influences they way new elements of business are built. From business cards, to new client boxes, t-shirts, vehicle-wraps, and even a snowboard – we applied the visual identity to ensure Layer 9 had every tool they needed.

The 9th Layer

Layer 9’s innovative approach to IT demanded an equally innovative approach to branding.  Screen-share sketching and an audit of our IT were as much a part of the process as discovery meetings and stakeholder interviews. The final brand identity became Layer 9, the 9th Layer in IT services. There are 7 layers to an OSI model, the eight layer is the end user and the 9th layer… well that’s Layer 9, they bring it all together.

How We Helped

We experimented with shapes, color, and concepts until we found the right look and feel for Layer 9. We organized and moderated brand-focused conversations that brought out the goals and needs of the new identity. We handed over The Brand Rollup, featuring logo, colors, and voice + tone, then we started to create.
